Papourri's Operations manager, Sean McMurry, manages a full
service store that can take care of your party needs from
beginning to end. All three Papourri locations have been using
Retail Pro Since 1992 and the success of the stores continues to
build.
We talked to Sean about the store and the
success of the business.
Tell me about your stores.
Sean: Papourri is a party goods
store. You can buy anything from your basic napkins or
plates to professionally designed center pieces and
invitations written in calligraphy. Everything can be
created and printed right in the store. We also do
decorating and balloons. We have 3 locations: Des Moines,
Iowa, West Des Moines, Iowa, and South Bend, Indiana. We
have a total of 96 employees for our 3 stores. Our typical
customers are female and our specialty is being able to plan
a party from beginning to end.
How long have you been using Retail
Pro?
Sean: We have been using Retail Pro since November 1992.
What did you use before Retail Pro for
POS?
Sean: We used another
system.
What was one of the reasons that you
decided to switch over to Retail Pro?
Sean: There were many
reasons, but mainly the communication module of Retail Pro
works tremendously better. Retail Pro is based on one
inventory system where you have access to a purchase order
right there. Our old system was independent and you had to
link the inventory through a module. This created a lot of
errors in the communication from the cash register back to
the main system.
How do you think Retail Pro has
affected your POS operations in sales or in controlling
inventory?
Sean: It saves me a lot
of time.
What
do you think are the most useful aspects of Retail Pro?
Sean: Having the
inventory at your fingertips even though you have multiple
locations at far distances. I have an independent warehouse
equipped with Retail Pro that is also away from the retail
location. I don't have to constantly make phone calls back
and forth. I can check to see what I have or do not have in
stock. This helps me make better sales.
Do your employees like working with
Retail Pro?
Sean: I have a large range of people working for me. Some
who are afraid to touch a computer and those who are
graduating from college with a degree in computer science.
All of them say that it is very user friendly and seem able
to use it well.
What made you buy Retail Pro?
Sean: The dealer and their great support.
Did you compare Retail Pro to any
other systems?
Sean: Yes, I spent one
full month traveling around the country looking at computer
systems before I bought Retail Pro. I also went to shows in
Atlanta and Dallas to look at computer systems.
What future plans do you have for your
stores?
Sean: We will be expanding and we would love to open one a
year.
How do you think Retail Pro can help
you achieve this?
Sean: Retail Pro is very
easy to adapt to a new location. It can give me the
information that I need on a daily basis which will make it
the easiest expansion I've ever dealt with.
