Departments and Categories

Store Operations enables you to organize your inventory into departments and categories.  Related merchandise is grouped together into departments.  A department is a manageable category created to aid in monitoring past performance, aid in future buying decisions and facilitate cleaner report output.

Each department and category is identified by a unique, user-defined name and code.

Department Code typically designates a major merchandise area, termed a department.  For example, in a shoe store, there might be one department for men’s shoes and another for women’s shoes.

Category Code identifies the class within a department.  For example, there might be a category of athletic shoes within the men’s shoe department.
