Inventory Data Conversion versus Inventory Manual Entry

Every Point-of-Sale system stores and utilizes data differently.   We have noted some pros and cons to doing both below.

Options for getting your stores inventory items into your new POS software:

  • Manually enter every item into the inventory database
  • Convert data from an existing POS system into your new software

    Inventory Manual Entry

Manual entry for all items can be initially time intensive.  Every item you intend to sell would need to be entered into the database.  Scanning is not an option to implement new items. Although this takes time you will know that all of the items entered are current and have the correct item definition such as matrix, kits, package items.

    Data Conversions

These are typically done for inventory items, departments, vendors and customers if a store has been using a Point-of-Sale system previously. There is also a time factor included when a data conversion occurs but, that is for the person actually performing the conversion.  It is also necessary for the person implementing the conversion to have gotten that information from the client in a specific format.  After the data specialist has reviewed the files from the specified format, he will determine the cost fee to the client to accomplish the conversion.
