Retailers
wish for huge sales on New Year's
Day
Analysts say consumers
will turn New Year's Day into the "Big White
One" and keep shopping through January, but the
rest of 2011 looks rocky for
retail.

The
gifting season is over, but the shopping is not
yet done, according to some retail experts.
January is expected to bring in a big sales haul
for retailers as consumers continue spending
from Christmas.
Still, some experts say
the Grinch may take over the rest of 2011.
Because of the blizzard that crippled the
Northeast, many New York area retailers are also
hoping to make up for missed sales from Dec. 26,
a big shopping day, with January
shopping.
"This will be the biggest
January we've ever seen at retail," said Gary
Stibel, chief executive of the New England
Consulting Group, adding that shoppers are still
compensating for a bad holiday season in 2009 by
splurging on gifts they cut back on last year.
In addition, if stores ran out of certain hot
items before Christmas, consumers might return
in the beginning of 2011 to scoop up new
inventory or discounted old
inventory.
"It's the same reason why when
you come off of a diet, you overeat, and gain
more weight," Mr. Stibel
said.

Advanced
Retail Management Systems 25th
Anniversary
This
year marks our 25th anniversary. We have seen
many changes in technology, retailing and in the
world in general during this time. When we first
started in business in 1986, the IBM PC was just
becoming popular. Very few small to mid-sized
retailers used computers at that time for
inventory control and Point-of-Sale. If a store
did have an inventory control system, they were
often using cash registers which connected to a
PC. Today we support over 1,000 retail
companies coast to coast on a variety of
Point-of-Sale systems with many diverse business
needs.
Since
1986, we have kept our initial focus of
providing technology that helps retailers excel
in their business. Our commitment to offer the
best customer service and training in our
industry to our customers remains our key
focus. In addition, we continue to make
improvements in our business operations and add
new product lines.
We
want to offer our heartfelt thanks to our
employees whose dedication and hard work have
allowed us to fulfill our promises, earn our
reputation in the industry and build a strong
foundation for future growth.
We
thank our customers for their business over the
years. With 25 years experience behind us, we
are well prepared for the challenges of the
future.

Management
Tip of the Day: Managing the customer
experience
(Reuters)
- Every interaction your company has with its
customers contributes to their larger experience
with your organization, according to Harvard
Business Review.

The Management Tip of the Day offers quick,
practical management tips and ideas from Harvard
Business Review and HBR.org ( www.hbr.org). Any
opinions expressed are not endorsed by
Reuters.
"Whether you're aware of it or not,
every interaction your company has with its
customers contributes to their larger experience
with your organization.
Perhaps your
company knows this and carefully and
thoughtfully crafts each experience in hopes of
influencing opinions. But, despite calculated
efforts, customers will not always perceive your
company as you wish.
People don't behave
or react exactly how you expect they will, but
don't give up because of this
unpredictability.
Accept it as part of
the challenge and frequently monitor what
customers are experiencing.
By getting
their input and feedback, or better yet,
observing them in real time, you can adjust
efforts accordingly. Perfect control is not
necessary to influence their opinions. Continue
to aim for the ideal and make modifications as
needed."

Pro Tip: Keeping Your
Inventory Compact As time passes, you
should delete old merchandise that you no longer
stock. However, this typically creates blank
sections scattered throughout the inventory
file. The empty rows will unnecessarily slow
some inventory searches and analyses, as Retail
Pro must read every row, empty or not. It is a
good practice to fill in these gaps when adding
new items. To locate an empty row, Click
new from the first row of inventory and
cursor will move to the first available empty
record.
