Are You on the Current Update Release Cycle of Retail Pro?

You may not notice any apparent issues with your software and you may feel that you do not need the current hot-fix or Update Release Cycle (URC), however URC's contain important fixes as well as subtle changes that make Retail Pro perform better.  URC's are distributed every couple of months or sooner as needed.  In 2008, Retail Pro, Inc. released 10 URC's.  For detailed information on what was included in recent URC's click here - URC History.  The URC History document will be updated and available on all Retail Vantage News Briefs under Quick Links (left menu).

URC's are only available to customers with current Software Assurance.  In addition to being on the most current URC, you should be using the most current version of Retail Pro available through software updates or upgrades.

  • Updates are defined as minor modifications made generally available by Retail Pro, Inc. or its licensors designed to make the Software more efficient, easier to operate, remedy defects, or which in some cases enable the Software to perform new functions.
  • An upgrade, which is the addition of major functions or significant new features to the Software, is defined, at a minimum, as a change in the tenths digit of a products version number. For example, v8.6 over an existing v8.52, would be considered an upgrade to the software. Either upgrade would require current enrollment within the Software Assurance Program. Likewise, migrating a Retail Pro application from version 8 generation to a version 9 generation is considered an upgrade.

Remember, if you have current Software Assurance, you should be on the latest version of Retail Pro, currently V8.52, with the most current URC.

For more information about updating your Retail Pro software, contact your sales consultant Stacey Ryan, Kathe Burke or Andrea Ellerbrock at insidesales@armsys.com or give us a call at (800) 305-0461.

Tech Tips

Diagnostic tool

The Retail Pro System Diagnostics Tool is used to diagnose and troubleshoot system and software problems. You can quickly and easily generate a diagnostic report containing a detailed analysis of system hardware, RTI software, and configuration settings. If necessary, the report can be printed and sent to Technical Support to aid in the identification and correction of a problem. Reports can be saved, printed, and optionally polled to the Main station.

Step 1 From the TOOLS menu select DIAGNOSIS.

Step 2 In the Systems Diagnostics window, select the system components you want to include in the report. By default, all components are included except HARD DRIVE CONTENTS. To add a component, select its check box. To remove one, clear the check box.

Step 3 Select START to run the report immediately. The time required to complete the diagnosis will vary depending on the components selected and your system performance.

Step 4 After the diagnosis is completed, the report is displayed in the report window. Navigate through the report using the scroll bars, arrow keys, /, or the drop-down list of report areas. Selecting an area from the drop-down list takes you instantly to that section of the report.

The first section of the report always includes date/time, store/station/workstation identification, and Retail Pro configuration information. This section is automatically included, so no option to include/exclude is available.

What Every Retailer Must Know...

Dear Valued Retail Pro Customer,

Every business has something they need to improve. Over the years we have realized that we need to be more proactive as your software consultants in keeping you up to date with changes in technology as it effects your software and hence every day operations. We're sure you have seen an improvement in our communication over the last several months. Most recently we have released information regarding the features of Version 8.6 that is due to be available in general release in the next couple of months. Among other new features, Version 8.6 will make your software PCI compliant, therefore improving your business as well. What is PCI compliancy?

PCI Compliance
What every retailer must know - Your customers' personal data might be at risk!
PCI Compliance - Credit card fraud is a potential liability of every retailer. Retailers are required to use current POS and EFT software, and to use suitable procedures to protect your business and your clients. The problem is so serious that the U.S. federal government has raised the Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirements to a new level. The new standard for Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) processing is called Payment Application Data Security System Compliance (PA-DSS).
Through data encryption and detailed security logging, Retail Pro Version 8.6 will provide retailers with comfort that their software is doing its part to protect the customer's payment information.

So, are you eligible for Version 8.6? If your Software Assurance Plan is current, you most definitely are! If you plan is not current, you can renew it so that you also qualify for this very important update to your software. Call or email us today. (800) 305-0461 or insidesales@armsys.com

Best Regards,

US Online Sales Up

APRIL 27, 2009

In dark days, e-commerce shines.

Most US economic indicators were down in Q1 2009, but online sales were an exception.

According to a survey by Forrester Research and Shop.org, US online retail sales rose an average of 11% in the first three months of 2009.

Of the 80 companies studied, 58% saw online sales increases compared with the same quarter last year.

Looking further into the findings, 44% of the e-tailers reported increases of over 10%, 14% showed increases up to 10% and 13% reported flat sales.

In the survey, about 70% of both consumer brand manufacturers and multichannel retailers reported online sales increases. However, Web-only merchants had a different situation. About six in 10 reported Web sales declines.

"It seems that consumer confidence is getting better," Sucharita Mulpuru, a Forrester analyst, told Bloomberg News. "Hopefully the worst is behind us."

Looking ahead, Citi Investment Research projects that US retail e-commerce sales will grow 4.4% in 2009 to $141 billion-and jump to 16.5% growth in 2010.

Could happy days be here-at least online-again? Maybe not for Web-only retailers.
